Even if it weren’t a solid ratings performer, however, the appeal of being the “James Spader network” is a strong incentive for NBC to keep the show around. In its Wednesday time slot last season, the show attracted nearly 9 million viewers per episode. Still, The Blacklist is one of NBC’s better-rated dramas. However, one could point to the fact that NBC’s Blindspot survived its Friday move as a positive sign here. Indeed, this is not exactly an auspicious move for former NBC breakout smash The Blacklist, especially after its dip in ratings and the network’s (atypical) delay for the show’s most recent season renewal. Unfortunately, there’s a generalized rule of thumb in network television scheduling: Friday nights tend to be death slots (with CBS procedurals being the exception). As The Blacklist season 6 moved the show to a new Friday time slot, the story of Raymond Reddington (James Spader) and his continued deception of Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) dug even deeper into the enigmatic “concierge of crime.” Reddington has had his ups and downs over the past several seasons, but viewers had to see him reach news lows in the show’s sixth season.
